Most Important Issues for IFPE Local 4408 Members in Upcoming General Election (Part 2 of 2)
(via Andrew Spiro - Area Vice President, Secretary of State Council)
The 2020 General Election is now only 17 days away! It seems like every election is “the most important election in our lifetime”, and we can get tired of hearing that. There are, however, actually circumstances surrounding this election that make it in the very least unique, if not life-changing, and certainly important to labor and our rights as working people.
The ILLINOIS FAIR TAX AMENDMENT. Without passage of this amendment, the shortfall in revenue due to Covid and the increased demand for services such as unemployment could have dire consequences for our union and our members. Without passage, there could be cuts of 5% to 10% across all state agencies, meaning layoffs and furloughs. Additionally, without passage we would ALL wind up with a Tax Increase.
So please, commit to vote, and encourage your family and fellow members to vote. See the election timeline that we have posted for more information. The local election authority is usually at your County Court House and they are always helpful with voting. It is not too late to register or vote absentee, if you haven’t done so all ready.
A list of upcoming deadlines is below. Please share these with anyone who has not yet registered to vote is considering voting by absentee ballot.
Sunday October 18: Close of online registration at midnight
Thursday October: Last day to request and absentee ballot
Monday, November 2: Early Voting ends
Tuesday, November 3: You may still register and vote at your local authority and also at most polling places. Returned absentee ballots must be postmarked by this date.
