POSITION SUMMARY
Central Management Services Division of Vehicles is looking for a candidate who is highly motivated and professional to serve as an Auto Motive Mechanic. This position will perform skilled mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance of passenger vehicles and light duty trucks for the states fleet. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under direct supervision of the Automotive Shop Supervisor, inspects passenger vehicles and light duty trucks serviced at the facility.
Performs major repair and maintenance to steering/suspension, exhaust, brakes/airbrakes, shocks/struts/springs, and computer controlled automotive systems including fuel injection, cooling/heating, electrical systems, and other components.
Operates diagnostic electronic testing equipment to discover mechanical problems and to service vehicles equipped with complex electronic ignition and pollution control systems.
Completes and submits shop records such as mechanic time tickets identifying parts used and labor hours for each repair/maintenance procedure performed to supervisor.
Performs basic upkeep and maintenance duties for the work area.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school or coursework in automotive mechanics or completion of an approved training course.
Requires experience necessary to qualify as a skilled mechanic.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Requires extensive knowledge of all mechanical hand tools and testing equipment.
Requires extensive knowledge of materials and parts.
Requires working knowledge of standard vehicle repair and maintenance practices and techniques, occupational hazards, and applicable safety measures.
Requires ability to locate and adjust mechanical feedbacks in motors and equipment and make necessary repairs.
Requires skill in the use of tools and the operation of the machines and equipment employed in motor repair and adjustment.
Requires ability to prepare work activity reports.
Prefers ability to repair diesel engines as well as gasoline engines.
Prefers the ability to bring own toolbox and mechanical tools.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This position requires the applicant to pass a background check.
Overtime is a condition of employment and you may be required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
Requires a valid driver’s license to perform road tests of vehicles.
