Since 1979, the Department of Education has ensured federal funds reach the students who need them most—low-income kids, students with disabilities, English learners, those in rural areas, and those pursuing college or careers. While our schools, community colleges, and universities remain under state and local control, the United States Department of Education funds vital programs and research that create opportunities and improve learning for nearly every student in America.
